Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
EECS Graduate Programs
The Department offers Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and a D.E. in Electrical Engineering. EECS awards Masters degrees in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Computer Science at the Lawrence campus and a Masters in Information Technology (MSIT) at the Edwards Campus.
EECS is located in Eaton Hall. The new 80,000-square-foot building contains first-rate equipment and laboratories. EECS researchers also have approximately 65,000-square-feet of research space in Nichols Hall, which is home to two EECS-affiliated research centers, the Center for Remote Sensing of Ice Sheets (CReSIS) and the Information and Telecommunication Technology Center (ITTC).
EECS faculty and students lead or participate in over 80 research projects. Funding agencies include the U.S. Air Force, Department of Defense (DoD), NASA, National Science Foundation (NSF), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Naval Research Laboratory, and high-tech companies. Our extensive external research funding enables the continual upgrading of EECS equipment and provides support to more than 120 Graduate Research Assistants (GRAs). The close collaboration between faculty and GRAs has resulted in numerous journal and conference publications, as well as several U.S. patents.
As a major research university, KU provides students with unique opportunities to participate in collaborative, multidisciplinary research. EECS specializes in five primary research and teaching areas:
- Bioinformatics
- Communications Systems and Networking
- Computer Systems Design
- Interactive Intelligent Systems
- Radar Systems and Remote Sensing
