EECS Networking Research Earns Top Honors

EECS graduate students Kamakshi Sirisha Pathapati and Nguyễn Ngọc Trúc Anh, EECS Ph.D. student Justin P. Rohrer, and EECS Associate Professor James P.G. Sterbenz received the Best Graduate Student Paper Award at the International Telemetering Conference (ITC) in October.

Gathering data from multiple test aircraft traveling at Mach speeds over vast areas poses unique network challenges. “Performance Analysis of the AeroTP Transport Protocol for Highly-Dynamic Airborne Telemetry Networks” details the design of resilient, reliable networks able to transmit large amounts of test data over limited bandwidth with only intermittent connectivity. EECS researchers developed the Airborne Network Telemetry Protocol (ANTP) suite, which includes TCP- and IP-friendly transport protocols that support multiple reliability modes that work within the larger aeronautical telemetry framework.  It also offers an innovative routing protocol that takes advantage of location information to leverage short connectivity times.
